LSAT > GPA. Unless you are applying to some festering TTT like Berkeley.

good news for me I guess. My 163 puts me in good (75% or higher) with most of my target schools, but my GPA is either 25-30% of lower. I have a sweet ass addendum for it, but it still is a 3.3. The actual number is everything.

Define "sweet ass addendum." They have probably heard every excuse in the book, so it needs to be compelling if they are going to overlook your GPA.

Started getting the fee waiver emails (im sure you all did too) is there any reason NOT to apply to the schools where it is free to send it? Might as well right? (Richmond and Seton Hall today)

I feel uncool and undesired - I haven't gotten any! But then again, I haven't sent in my undergrad transcripts yet *trying to reassure myself*

Sweet ass adendum= was undergoing cancer treatments for a good amt of time during UG, spent 2-3 months in a hospital while completing 15 cred hours (made it much more difficuly for me to get As than usual students..) and before all this (I got it removed and treated) I had a brain tumor that gave me intense symptoms. Still completed my undergrad in time. I think it's a little bit of an excuse to have a few less grades. Since the removal of my tumor (1.5 years) my GPA comes to a 3.92.

I'd say that definitely qualifies. Congrats on overcoming cancer!

I'd think an adcomm would discard the GPA completely and only look at her LSAT score to determine admission though, no?

Couldn't help you with WI, but U. of Washington is tough for any out of state... they have an in-state quota, or some such, so only 25% of their students are from out of state. They are also one of the few schools left in the country that averages LSAT scores.

For a city that rocks as much as Seattle does, their adcomms sure are a bunch of kill joys.

i too have an addendum that is pretty solid--I'm hoping for a "meh" and a second glance at the rest of my transcript. however, i think your addendum (i guess it is "super-sweet cuz' you lived lol) will make you one of the few applicants who have their LSAC GPA ignored--especially in light of your superb performance post-chemo.

Just make sure it comes out IMMEDIATELY in your addendum--the admin might be quickly sifting through, briskly score checking and may only glance at your app--i'd even consider sending an email later on feigning that you thought you may have sent the addendum in incorrectly. the idea borders on obnoxious, but the admissions process is generally not a personal operation and you absolutely need the chemo information to be read in order for your application to be fairly evaluated.

IMO, you should be a strong candidate for UGA in-state if you can utilize your experience in a moving PS. Everyone has some emotional tie to cancer through his or her social network(s), so it is a tender soft spot for everyone. Albeit somewhat crudely utilitarian, you need to express what you went through to reflect your capability as a student.

I think you should throw an app out to any school that interests you where you fall somewhere above 25% LSAT (assuming you have some cash for a few apps--worth the shot in the long run). If your PS and Addendum are effective, I'd say your 3.9 will effectively become your interpreted GPA.

Thanks! I wish that was the case, but law schools are obsessed with numbers. I doubt they will be willing to overlook my 3.3.

TN - Not the best school in the state. Vanderbilt kids DO take jobs there. 36 stayed in 2009. Tennessee only graduates 160.
