LogicalBaozi wrote:Because I want to learn to think like a lawyer, and feel the skills and education one receives in a law school will enable me to accomplish my goals in life.

Other advantages: it takes 3 years as opposed to six for an econ PhD, and there are more options outside of academia. In econ, I'd basically be busting my butt for 30 years to get a tenured position, and have virtually no influence on the real world unless I became a Sachs or Krugman.

With law, on the other hand, I can make an impact. Small, measureable, and incremental at best, but at least I could see the outcome of my work, and make a contribution to those causes I wish to serve. Won't be rich though :(

You might be overly optimistic. I love economics too.

Someone on TLS once posted this idea for a personal statement:

I drive a shitty car. I know longer want to drive a shitty car. See you in the fall.

Classic stuff

I already like scotch and I'm slightly narcissistic. Someone has to keep the stereotype alive.

I want to sit on the Supreme Court someday. I might settle for an Appellate circuit if they really asked nicely.

Ender is definitely Locked. I confirmed this individually. The proof:

1. They both claim to attend/have attended Depaul
2. They both push the same blog (shilling me softly)
3. they both claim to be in Chicago

I suspect this guy is the same person given posting tendencies. Could be wrong but the first two are def. the same person.

No, it was something for make up your worst personal statement ideas. I would laugh my ass off if someone had enough chutzpah to try something like that for real.

Assuming you are not some alt...

Dude, you aren't going to get any legitimate responses on here. We have been flooded with your types lately. Nothing you have to say is going to be new to anyone but the extremely n00bish, and most of them are 1) going to be enlightened by the TLS vets soon via a stroll through the Legal Employment thread or 2) too thick to listen to anyone's advice, so you're wasting your time.

The TLS veterans on here have done their research, are attending schools for the right reasons, and have mitigated the potential risk as much as possible (scholarships, going to T10s, jobs in hand, solid backup options, etc.) And believe it or not, a lot of us want to be lawyers because it is a field we are passionate about. Shocking, I know.

Feel free to contribute to our site, but please don't treat us like a bunch of gung-ho, brazen, uneducated 0Ls. And definitely do not actively promote your blog.

Precisely who, if anyone, should attend LS? My guesses:

1. Kids on full rides to HYS
2. Kids whose parents are biglaw Managing Partners
3. Kids whose parents are federal judges
4. Kids whose parents are Obama Administration staffers

Anyone else or did I just cover it?

I don't want to open Pandora's Box here, but I'll add one other point. I understand that blogging about the "law school scam" is hot right now, and why not? - it is easy to do and there is legitimately something to complain about. I get it. However, coming to message boards where hundreds of 0Ls dwell and telling them/suggesting/indirectly hinting at not going to law school isn't really helpful. New standards need to be created in reporting employment statistics. Things like this - http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=114338 - are helpful. Telling 0Ls not to go to law school is really not.

The majority of your classmates have no serious job offers from an "elite" law school? I'm guessing by elite you mean T6 or maybe T10. The statistics (not talking about the ones from the schools themselves) do not support this assertion, unless by serious job offers you only mean biglaw.
