Top Law Schools

I have a disorderly conduct violation on my record. It was a possession charge that got knocked down. Do you guys think the top law schools will look down on me for it while applying?

disclose it, don't even hint at making an excuse for it, and they won't care.

Actually most of the elite schools probably consider disorderly conduct (protesting) a badge of honor.

well i actually got it for possession, not protesting, do i have to disclose how i got it?

I would be careful with your wording, since that's really the only thing that will get you in trouble. They won't care about the actual charge, whether it's disorderly conduct or simple possession (I know from personal experience). Read the application instructions. Do they want convictions? If so, I'd take a just-the-facts approach. Do they want all charges (*cough* NYU/Columbia)? If so, you might be compelled to list the possession and then note that you were actually only convicted of disorderly conduct.

Don't hedge, just provide what's required.

I was only halfway serious, but what I meant is disorderly conduct is a common charge for people who protest a little too aggressively. As long as you don't get too carried away with an elaborate explanation this charge amounts to essentially nothing.

C'mon, this isn't even really a criminal charge. This thread fails to deliver.

IOW - OP, you should see what people get into law school with and get admitted to the bar with. Just don't lie about it.

How bout "I was charged with possession of XYZ and pled to/was convicted of disorderly conduct. I was stupid. Thanks"
