How accurate is the LS Predictor site?
Sorry guys, but I've asked this a few times in other threads with not much advice offered, so I had to make a thread.
Questions:
-I've been told that the site is based on numbers from LS Numbers, so it's fairly accurate. True?
-As far as the terms they generate (i.e. Weak consider/consider/strong consider), which one would you stop at when applying? I mean should you diss out the $ for apps to a school that's considered a "weak consider"?
-Going along with the above question, if I'm to apply ED at a school, would it boost from let's say a weak consider to a consider? Should "weak consider" be the area I look at for my ED application if the school I want to is listed as such?
Thanks for advice in advance.

Re: How accurate is the LS Predictor site?
As far as accuracy goes, you could click on the accuracy tab on their website and read that. Probably better than poking around for anecdotal evidence.
Use the LSP numbers as rough guides to your likelihood of getting in and determine for yourself whether it's worth the application fee.
Apply ED to a school you really want to go to that isn't entirely out of your league. If you'd rather go to a "consider" school than a "weak consider" school, don't apply ED to the "weak consider" school just because.

If you're not a horrific splitter, it's decent. In at my "Admits," 50/50 WL/In on my "Considers."

Re: How accurate is the LS Predictor site?
It gives a good approximation for typical applicants. I think it works by estimating a school's index number (how strongly they weight lsat v. gpa) with help from LSN. I think it gives a good ballpark to tell you what schools you should start researching but it shouldn't go beyond that in terms of where you should or shouldn't apply. Most applicants are probably wasting money applying to "deny" schools, but whether it is worth sending off an application is too particular a question to answer in the abstract.
Your ED choice should not be determined by LSP. There are too many factors to consider. If you aren't sure, I'd suggest starting a thread on this site with your numbers and school preferences/situation.
I think the site is being updated with the new numbers on June 22nd.

Re: How accurate is the LS Predictor site?
How LSP called it vs how it went down for me:
6 "Considers" (Yellow) - 1 Acceptance (W&M with $$), 2 WLs, and 3 Dings
2 "Strong Considers" (Light Green) - 1 Acceptance (with alms) and 1 WL
5 "Admits" (Dark Green) - 1 WL (UNC), 4 Acceptances (with $$).
"Admit" seem to be spot on, with UNC just being biased against out of state applicants.
The "Strong Consider" WL might've been an acceptance if I had applied earlier in the cycle, but who knows.
Yellow is a crapshoot.

Can Asians check the "URM" box of the LS Predictor?
I know they aren't usually considered URMs (even though they comprise less then 5% of U.S. population, which ironically makes them a real minority) but are they really on an equal playing field with Whites?

Then can if they feel like getting inaccurate results.

No there's actually some software that detects a user's ancestral history and prevents certain people from checking the box!D. H2Oman wrote:MagnumLifeStyle wrote:Can Asians check the "URM" box of the LS Predictor?

The one thing I wish LSP could do that it doesn't now is account for late applications.

Really?? What are your numbers, if you don't mind me asking..acrossthelake wrote: For example, I have "admit" for Stanford, when my actual chances are near 0%.

Woops. Just saw your profile. Why do you think you have such a bad chance at Stanford? No softs whatsoever?Cilent21 wrote:Really?? What are your numbers, if you don't mind me asking..acrossthelake wrote: For example, I have "admit" for Stanford, when my actual chances are near 0%.

Accurate for traditional applicants with fairly standard numbers. Not as accurate for splitters. And as noted above, it doesn't take application date into account, which can play a big factor.

Look up what the "UR" in URM stands for. I'll give you a hint: Asians don't qualify because they are enormously ovepresented in graduate/professional schools.MagnumLifeStyle wrote:Can Asians check the "URM" box of the LS Predictor?

But feel free to check whatever box you want. Most people lie about themselves online anyway, just rarely are they lying to what is essentially a calculator.

I have very similar numbers, average softs, and would also say that Stanford is a hail mary.Cilent21 wrote:Woops. Just saw your profile. Why do you think you have such a bad chance at Stanford? Look at their LSN. There's a solid line of rejection at 3.8

Freaking Stanford. So annoyingacrossthelake wrote:Yeah, this. 3.8 seems to be their floor(for white and asian applicants), which LSP doesn't take into account. West Coast in general isn't as friendly to splitting, which pains me because I prefer it.
