3.1 GPA - What LSAT to be considered for Fordham?

Postby jdhopeful11 » Sat Jun 05, 2010 7:42 pm

I have a consistent upward grade trend throughout UG - every semester has been better than the last. I've also worked full time throughout UG. I'm also a political science major at a top60 national university. What LSAT score would I need to have to be seriously considered at Fordham via EA with my 3.1 LSDAS GPA.

More about me:
-1 legal work experience
-1 internship with the AG
-Significant 'other' work experience
-Bilingual (arabic/english)
-First generation
-Significant ec activities
-Excellent LORs, PS, and DS

Your "top60" undergrad def. does not matter. From what I've read on here maybe attending a "top5" UG will give a little boost at some schools. According to LSN they accepted two people with similar gpa's that weren't nontraditional or URM and they were the following 164 3.09 and 166 3.15 but they rejected plenty of people with similar numbers. Even those that were URM at least 165 or over. Both of the acceptances sent in their app at the beginning of October so If your not gonna break 170 that is your only chance and it is a slim one.

That GPA is really going to hurt you at Fordham - they don't seem to dip that low even for high LSATs, as shown by LSN results in the 3.0-3.3 range:
166 - 1 for 6
167 - 1 for 11
168 - 0 for 8
169 - 1 for 4
Total 166-169 - 3 for 29 ~= 10% chances

I would apply for PT unless you hit 170+.

That's what I was thinking. I was hoping that the upward trend, and the fact I worked ft throughout ug would give me a better shot, but you're right the LSN numbers say it all. I can't claim URM status either

You probably have a better shot at UVA, Northwestern, GULC or Mich if you actually get 170+.

This is probably the very last year that applying PT has any notable effect on admissions chances (see LSN, it really doesn't appear to have that much of an affect at all). The PT class has been cut in half in order to cut out those dragging the medians. So I honestly don't think applying PT will help anymore.

I think it's possible for OP to get into Fordham with a high LSAT, but still unlikely. The low GPA admits all appear to have engineering or physics backgrounds on LSN and thus may have been cut some slack that OP will not be given. Like others said, there are other higher-ranked splitter-friendly schools out there that OP might have good chances at with 170+.

Notably, many low gpa-ers were admitted early in the cycle. My acceptance letter early in the cycle stated there would be 160 evening students. Later in the cycle, this number was reduced to 80 and no more sub-median students were admitted until waitlisters were finally considered (at least according to the sample on LSN).

tl;dr- Fordham is a long shot, PT or not, but not a lost cause with a 167+ LSAT. Apply to splitter-friendly t14s with a 170+ LSAT for better odds than OP has at Fordham.

I think at least a 171 would put you in the running.
For those people who say OP has a better shot at some splitter-friendly T14 schools- those people are wrong..
(Disclaimer: Northwestern/Work Experience).

OP, if you apply EA, expect to be waitlisted with a 168+. If you are in the 169-170 range you should get in eventually, but Fordham is a school that really cares about GPA. Please note, however, that non of this is absolute. You can raise your chances by meeting with adcomms and being in communication with our admissions office, which is really friendly and informal. (They gave me a box of cookies to thank me for staying involved, which was really sweet.) Good luck!
