The Future elitist law schools?

Postby newrich » Thu Jun 03, 2010 6:19 pm

SO, TLSers what law schools do you think are good or even very good right now, but will join the AMAZING law schools in say a decade from now? Any predictions? If so, explain why..I'm going to say Fordham Law http://law.fordham.edu/18112.htm They raised 100 million dollars for the law school. In addition to this, the entire university UG, Grad busin, Education, is transforming. When I say this, I mean it is going from an already pretty good school, and it will be a GREAT school within a decade.

I predict barely anything will change, because historically, that's what has happened.

I'm impartial... I don't go to Fordham or have any affiliation. I know the president, and he is one of the msot charismatic men I have ever met. Presidents can bring schools to the next level of prestige.. NY ZOO...MIT almost went bankrupt.

Fordham will continue to be the third best school in NYC, and maybe ~12th best for breaking into the NYC market. If it improves, the improvements will be gradual, not rapid. Fordham is a good school, but it will never overtake Columbia/NYU and it will continue to rise and fall based on the NYC market.

In fact, given Fordham's insular-NYC focus and the fact that it is dwarfed by two T6s and overshadowed by a T14 (Cornell), I think it is one of the least likely schools to jump into the "elite" category.

Fordham will never be better than the third-best law school in NYC, which greatly limits its ability to move up the rankings. Anyway, the rankings, especially near the top, are very stable over periods of decades.

You raise some good points. However, NYU was overshadowed by Columbia and Fordham like 15 years ago? And now some people will argue that NYU Stern is better than Columbia Biz, and NYU law is exclipsing Columbia Law. Oh yeah, I jsut want to add that Stanford Law will completely eclipse H and Y. Stanford was established in 1915? and is already on-par... One must look at the long term to predict accurately.

LOL. I do go to HLS, so take this with a grain of salt, but Stanford will never "eclipse" anything. There are several reasons for this, but one of the most straightforward is the simple fact that it is located in California. The northeast has always been and will continue to be the overly concentrated academic center of this country. I don't say this because I necessarily think it should be this way, but it is this way nevertheless.

Also, the thread title makes it sound like you're asking which school is going to be the snobbiest.

Grammatically true, but in reality is there much of a distinction in this case?

Everyone I know who's gone to Columbia has said it's a shithole. But then again, I don't have that many data points.
