Howard v Hofstra

Post by dreon007 » Fri May 28, 2010 10:56 am

I am an URM (although this seems apparent from my current dilemma). Hofstra gave me 15K a year, and Howard gave me nothing. What are your thoughts?

Go to Howard.
Howard is going to open more doors for you and probably end up costing about the same.

Look at Howard's OCI numbers vs. Hofstra's. This is a little dated & during the boom years, but from http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com Howard had 552 firms at OCI. Hofstra had 32.

Howard has one good thing going for it. It's OCI. So if you're at the top of your class there you're in good shape. Other than that it leaves much to be desired. It's bar passage rate is horrendous, 60%. Hofstra's is 83%. If you wanna practice in NY I would go with Hofstra anywhere else I would chose Howard it has better name recognition but know what you're getting in to. Neither are amazing schools and if you're at the bottom of your class at either you're screwed.

I visited both Howard and Hofstra, and I can say without a doubt the better choice is Howard.

Howard. If you were looking at Brooklyn/Dozo, I would say them. Howard is impressive at the top 10% = the world is yours. However if you in the bottom 75%, I would just be happy that tuition is only $20,000 (as opposed to other private schools).
