so you have had no problems with onenote 2007 using crossover?blhoward2 wrote:Parallels works like vmware, it is a complete install visualized. Crossover is an emulator. Sometimes with crossover, a feature or two may not work correctly. (For instance, OneNote 2010 doesn't yet run.) in Parallels or vmware, it will run flawlessly though you will use slightly more battery/processor power since it is running windows as well.Ronaldo wrote:Then, that sucks... Is "Parallels" better, or is it pretty much the same?

Nope...it's pretty stable. I just upgraded my crossover version and haven't tested it again yet...will try to later today.tar2009 wrote:so you have had no problems with onenote 2007 using crossover?blhoward2 wrote:Parallels works like vmware, it is a complete install visualized. I am probably going to buy Windows 7 to run on my Mac...
Does that mean, it will cost $200, since I am using a Mac (it won't be an upgrade)?

If you already own another copy, you may qualify for an upgrade. I'd check with your school, many will let you buy it for like $20.Ronaldo wrote:I am probably going to buy Windows 7 to run on my Mac...

I think the 65$ is for office. Either way, I'm not sure. I Just know for 100% sure that is where I bought Windows 7 and it cost me $29.99 (just looked it up in my old emails). Maybe the raised the price or something. I bought mine the day Windows 7 came out.

Re: Advice on OneNote/Notebook?
Ok, so OneNote 2007 in crossover...works mostly.
- You cannot record audio or video
- Inserting another text file does not work (crashes)
- Copying a link to a note doesn't work (crashes)
Not sure if I'll need these features or not. I have vmware so I may run in that if need be...

Re: Advice on OneNote/Notebook?
Quick question: I have a mac and am trying to decide which version of crossover to get. 7 Full or 8 Full??
Does it matter, will I be hindered by an earlier version?
Is omnioutliner better for taking notes than onenote????

I do not have XP or Vista; therefore, do not qualify for the upgrade. Is there a discount for the non-upgrade Windows 7?

Not sure. On the Michigan site it specifically says you can use the upgrade version on apple's for bootcamp or dual boot.Ronaldo wrote:blhoward2 wrote:Office was $60...Win 7 was $65the lantern wrote:I think the 65$ is for office. Re: Advice on OneNote/Notebook?
To each his own, however, I don't think the organization and search features of OneNote can make up for the chaotic way it clumps text together. You can easily remedy the search limitations in Word by using a desktop search application (like Google Desktop search) which will search within documents. By using descriptive headers, file names, and folders, you can easily organize Word notes. The logic behind Word makes much more sense for the highly hierarchical nature of note-taking in law school and you can much more easily standardize text stylization and summarize information in Word than you can with OneNote.the lantern wrote:Whoever said Word is better for note-taking clearly doesn't know how to use OneNote. The best part of OneNote is when you are looking for something specific but can't remember what day you took the notes or whatever, you can search for certain terms and it will bring up every instantiation of your query no matter where it is in your notebook. It is also incredibly easy to cut/paste, drag/drop to whatever format you like, and create flowcharts. I don't know anything about the Mac counterpart, but OneNote has changed the way I take notes, and it has improved my study habits/method tremendously (I'm not a law student fyi).
Both have great features, but Word is more practical and to deride Word simply because you like OneNote's organization format is a little foolish.
