the AP exam from hell

Postby Nena_a » Sat May 01, 2010 11:07 pm

im freaking out. i would read all these posts complaining about low gpa's. i thought, 'that wont be me. i have good grades. mostly a's a couple of b's and some c's that im sure will disappear into oblivion somehow.' um wrong. i just crunched some numbers on a gpa calculator. thanks to an effing AP exam for English i took in highschool, i was credited for 1302 and 1301 but they gave me C's!!! whatever, right? but then in 06 i got pregnant and went through some REAL bad morning sickness which led to three c's and one B that semester, the worst ive ever done in my whole academic career. if my calculations are correct, i will BARELY break a 3.7 IF i get STRAIGHT A'S for my final four semesters. does this sound right to any of you? anyone have stories where you significantly raised your GPA? my lsat test date is in october and my pt was a 154 due to the Logic Games section. I already bought the LG Bible and I am noticing much improvement so im *hoping* to raise my score to at least the mid 160's. i have hope for that; my gpa, not so much. will i get some sort of boost for being mexican american? please tell me yes. i also have a VERY significant upward trend (many, many W's and three transfers due to stupidity/ family emergencies plus the C's I just talked about, going up all the way to consistent straight A's) from reading my own post i think the best I can probably do is St. Mary's :( i hope.

Why would you convert your AP exams into credits for Cs? Most schools let you earn ungraded credits....

Wait your school gave you C's for AP test credit? That doesn't sound right.

i just checked the collegeboard website. a grade of 3 is equivelent to a C. If I knew the risks of the AP exams I never would have taken them. I dont understand why they gave me 4 A's for ONE AP spanish exam I scored a 4 in. So I received 4 A's for 1 Spanish Ap exam I got a score of 4 in; then I got 2 C's for an English AP exam I took. if a 4 = A then wouldnt a 3=B?

Some undergrads have a policy of converting AP scores to letter grades, probably 5 = A, 4 = B, 3 = C.

Well that sucks balls. My UG just gave credits for AP exams that were not calculated in my GPA.

I would just take the classes over if they were going to give me a C .Mine just counted as "transfer" credits, so no grade given.

That's ridiculous. NYU gives credit with no grade, and a note about it being AP credit.

Well am I glad NYU doesn't convert AP scores into grades...got a 2 in French, that's a D. Wipes out any advantage from having had 4 5's.

Lucky for you, you're a URM. Don't stress...do as best as you can throughout the rest of UG and beast the LSAT.

That sucks but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sounds like you have a decent GPA otherwise. Especially if you have a couple more semesters to bring it up. Study as hard as you can for the LSAT. Yes, you do get a boost for being Mexican. So if you can score in the 160s you're going to have some really good options. Don't freak out.

Eh, kind of disappointing my school doesn't do that. I actually did well on the ap tests, got 5's on all three exams which would aid my gpa. In fact, my school is so TTT that they accept scores of 3,4,5 for the same credit :/
