People are normal here (whatever that means in your mind) and social. A good LSAT =/= bad social skills. Plus, career services office offers tons of mock interview training for those who need some help (or even those who do not). There aren't FIFTY students of the class that can't hold a 20 minute conversation that is the interview. Keep telling yourself that, go ahead. It's simply wrong. We have the normal spread of people.

It was a joke, Frank.

god forbid you weren't coddled and cradled from your first 1L class to your first day of law work, what a tough world you must live in

I love getting those T6ers all riled up. Now the REAL question is how did the UVA grads do at OCI? There is no way those fratty softball-playing bastards wouldn't know how to sweet talk a biglaw interviewer into giving them a job.

From what I've read (certainly not everything on the subject, but a good bit) UVA has fared better than its peer schools. huh. THAT'S WEIRD!

Haha whether this is true or not, so funny how UVA is like the "cool" T14. I know I have no hope of getting off that WL but here's to hoping. If the previous poster wasn't pulling shit out of his ass, it would lend at least some evidence to my hypothesis that the type who goes to Columbia is at least somewhat likely to lack good interviewing/social skills and not get jobs as a result.

Link comparing how the schools did, please, or else not credited. tyia.

I assume "by its peer schools" he meant MPB. Let's be realistic here...

Columbia did much better than UVA placing students in 2L summer positions this year. Columbia has confirmed that nearly 70% got 2L gigs through their EIP/OCI/whatever, and while no definitive data is out for most lower T14 schools I can all but assure you none of MVPBDCNG hit 70%. At those schools 60% would surprise me, 40% would not.

Columbia placed 67.5% of those who entered EIP into jobs. That's probably a floor of 60% placed in big law (taken in relation to the entire class at CLS) during EIP, with more likely placed through hustle and later interview periods.

There is no evidence of results from M, V, P or B. You absolutely cannot trust people's anecdotes, nobody has a sense for how the classes are doing globally to the point where they can extrapolate. It's clear that more than a third and less than two thirds were placed from the anecdotes, but otherwise we'll have to wait for numbers.

You don't know the exact % for C because it is unclear how many people actually participated in EIP. I go to C, by the way.

But it's not like we're making shit up either. I have it on good authority from several sources that roughly 400 CLS students participated in EIP. If that's wrong or off based that's wrong or off base, but I have no reason to doubt it.

(In terms of bona fides, I am a 1L at a relevant school)

Frank wrote:I would estimate more than 400. You have to factor in the transfer students. Right now, our 1L class has 397 students (publicly available, online), and we expect 45 - 60 transfers (website, also). So, that will give us a high of 457 students, and a low of 442 students. I would guess only ~20 do not participate in EIP. So, the total # is probably closer to 430ish that do EIP.

You're right, the numbers aren't wildly off base, but 70% is a bit generous.

400 is roughly correct because: the 2L class size before transfer was ~370, they took ~60 transfers, and ~30 did not participate. Some even say that 30 non-participant is too little - besides the hardcore PI people who don't participate, many of the transfers who were accepted after the bidding deadlines also don't get to participate)

Transfers accepted to late don't get to OCI? Harsh.

Hmm. We'll probably have a slightly larger class then, I guess. I had heard ours was a bit bigger than normal. Maybe there won't be as many transfers admitted.

Yeah, I was aware of the fact that the transfers don't get to bid if accepted after the deadline. However, they can still go and try to snag an interview in the morning of from the firm's reception info area. I am sure some did this. In fact, I would be really surprised if not nearly all the transfers try to do the EIP...what would be the point of transferring to C, then?

I am sure that a lot of hardcore PI people doe EIP anyway. I know a friend of mine who is set on working BIGGOV, but this friend is doing EIP as a backup plan. I can't imagine that other people aren't like this. I would guess almost all of the class does it, still. Thirty still seems a bit high to me. That's just my view, though.

Maybe you are right. Two of the 2L's I know corroborated the 30 figure, but they aren't necessarily better informed than us.

I'm putting my 4 week notice in today! I'm traveling most of the summer, that's why I'm giving notice so early. I, essentially, landed exactly the job I thought I wanted when I graduated, so this is very bitter sweet for me.

A little excited.
A little nervous.

Law school here I come!
