OP, I sent you a PM with details. I do think that certain softs can make an impact on your success and that you can easily take certain steps to highlight the value of your soft factors. Overall though, admissions is about the numbers

At SLS admit weekend, I met a lot of folks with the following:

- Fulbright/Marshall/Truman (only a couple of Rhodes scholars, who were equally impressive)
- combat veterans
- D-I athletes (though mostly in sports like track, swimming, and volleyball)
- interesting work experience, such as the White House or ibanking firms
- PhD work in difficult fields, especially the sciences.

I mean, everyone was interesting and compelling, but those seemed to be the 'softs' that stick out to me in retrospect, i.e. a non-trivial number of folks had them.

Mine felt fairly lackluster in comparison, but I am thrilled to be part of such a solid group of people

You're selling yourself short. You have both strong softs as well as very interesting ones.

(You're admissions cycle is amazing btw; you're pretty much my hero, even though my cycle is already over and I'm not on the look out for inspiration)

I wasn't even applying this year until a confluence of events happened this summer. It's amazing how full-circle things can come.

I agree with everything that's been said regarding prestigious softs, but I also would like to point out that there is something to be said for softs that tell a story about an applicant and are different/unique even if not necessarily prestigious (in the way that a Rhodes is). I like to think I fall in that category -- when I went to campus visits and chatted with admissions officers, they definitely remembered me as the one with the background/interest in X (it's actually so specific I keep it off these boards but if you really want to know you can PM me).

One of my classmates was an F-14 fighter pilot. He landed bomb-loaded jet planes on tiny moving runways in the middle of an ocean for years. Of course, for all I know, he had a 4.0/180 too.

I got in to Stanford and Harvard as well with, in ConMan's words, "middle of the road" numbers (169, 3.92) and I think part of it may have had to do with my softs.

I was editor of my campus newspaper (HYPS undergrad), I co-founded a nonprofit in DC after graduation, Rhodes finalist, etc.

OP - I can't state enough the importance of taking some time off after undergrad. Even just a year or two will allow you to do something interesting with your life you can't otherwise find time to do. And that will help you stick out.
