Anyone else have any cheap/healthy/simple recipies/grocery tips for us law students on a budget?
I don't know how healthy it is, but I really like to take ground beef, brown it, put in the bottom of a big bowl, put half cream style corn, half regular corn on top of that, and then put mashed potatoes on the very top. Very delicious, very cheap, and it reheats very well.
Yummmmm, shepard's pie :)

Ah. Roommates are a no-go for this guy. Too damned old for that shite.

The phrase "live like a lawyer now and live like a student later; live like a student now and live like a lawyer later" is just ridiculous in my opinion. Why not live like a normal person throughout?
wow, something not ridiculous is said in this thread

Coming to the end of 3 years in college with roommates myself. Never again. God forbid I end up working in NYC, I'll live in Newark before I get a roomie, though if everything goes as planned, I'll go to a lower top14 school, graduate near the top of my class, and end up in Chicago biglaw. The next roommate I'll have is a spouse.

What happened to Peter North? I think he'd have connections in that (throbbing) vein.

no, pretty clear. just Iowa having a lucrative party scene is shocking news to me. You need to stop shattering my stereotypes about the midwest. in my mind, Iowa students all drive to corn fields and drink grain alcohol and Leinenkugel's.

I'm glad you'll be able to buckle down in the face of such the bitchin' party scene.

I think we might be dealing with a case of diminished expectations here.

I <3 Leinie's.

I cook huge, healthy, cheap, vegetarian meals most nights of the week. I use allrecipes.com mostly, because you can search by ingredient ("Uh, I have chickpeas, carrots, and half a banana- what can you do me for?"). I love cooking and food, and it's definitely possible to eat healthily and cheaply. And as someone who joined the film society at her undergraduate school solely because they ordered the best pizza every Monday, I second the free food suggestions. Plus I got to see a ton of great movies free.

I hope to take out and live on roughly 12k. I'm gonna need your prayers
What are you expecting to get out of that 12k?
everything

rent= 400/month
food= 80/month

books= 1500

leaves money left over for anything else i may need. Is this too much or too little
I really doubt you can make it on $80 a month. I tried living on $200 and it was basically impossible...
