At HLS's ASW, the parents were the biggest assholes by far.

Don't worry... by graduation the students will have caught up.

Maybe this father was an alumni or was someone important (politician, etc.) and had a reason to go with this person to meet the dean.

Seriously, I went to several ASD's (did not bring parents) and I didn't spend the time "socializing with future classmates" minus some passing conversation and a bit of small talk. I didn't look at ASD's as a place to make friends; I looked at it as a way to decide whether or not I wanted to go to the school and I imagine many are the same.

Now, it's different if the ASW's include bar crawls or staying with other students or have more of a "party" atmosphere; obviously you are not going to bring your parents to drink with law students. Otherwise, who cares if someone brings their family or not? As long as your family keeps quiet, no one should.
