Can calling a school actually help speed things up ?

Hello all,
Just wanted to get your thoughts on something. My app had been review at a school for three months. I finally decided to call admissions early last week and politely asked about my progress. The lady told me it was still in review but she told me to call back at the end of the week for a follow-up. Friday rolls around and instead of me calling them, the same lady actually called me back telling me she hadn't forgotten my file and that a decision was still pending. Sure enough, the same lady calls me today to notify me I've been accepted.
Do you guys think my original call to their office actually "pushed" my file to another round of review ? We typically hear on TLS that calling admissions is risky and bad...but is it possible that a call from applicants might actually rush them to hurry up a bit (in a good way)? For all I know, my file could've been sitting there for another month or longer without making it to the hands of adcomms...
thoughts?
Thanks.
