J.D. vs. LL.M. Job Prospects

Post by Scheveningen » Tue Apr 13, 2010 2:40 pm

All else being equal, do a J.D. candidate and an LL.M. candidate at the same law school (say, a T14) who are U.S. citizens have similar job prospects? Or does the former have an advantage because J.D. admissions is generally more competitive? Let us also assume that the LL.M. candidate received his J.D. from a borderline T1.

I can never remember where the damn NLJ reports are that go through summer hiring firm-by-firm, but I do recall seeing that many firms don't hire US LLMs (i.e., those who already have their JD and are getting the LLM. Doesn't include people getting an LLM who have a law degree from out-of-country).
