Both excellent points.

Hahahaha +1

As a Texan who went to school in Oklahoma, I was always continually harassed about how the state of Oklahoma was the same if not better than Texas. Even if you're not from Texas, you can see that that is a blatant lie.

1. Native Oklahoman here, and I love it, but I'm also going to get the fuck out as soon as I can.
2. In regards to the argument about what region the state of Oklahoma is in, I consider myself a midwesterner, as do the majority of my Oklahoman friends. I don't have the "hick" accent many on the coast may expect from an "Okie," because, surprise, the majority of us don't.Nobody considers themselves "southern," at least in the way it's understood in South Carolina, Georgia, etc. Once you get south of Oklahoma City, you'll find plenty of people that consider themselves to be living in the "southwestern" United States. For the most part though, as long as you don't call them "Texan," they couldn't care less.

if you're leaning heavily towards going to law school this fall, have you considered the option of transferring after your 1L?

I know it puts more pressure on your doing well your first year, but, always an option

As a native Illinoisan and an ardent atheist, I don't find this area too Bible-belty. It definitely can be if you're in the rural areas, but if you're in a city like STL or Chicago, you're going to be able to avoid a lot of it. Also, from what I hear, WUSTL is very liberal overall.

I still vote BU, but if your only reason for turning down WUSTL or the midwest in general is a fear of religious conservative gay-bashers, you should reconsider. That's a lot of money to turn down from a great school.

Awful advice. Transferring should obviously be considered should you perform exceptionally well, but don't even consider going to a school you won't be okay graduating from. You shouldn't need any extra "pressure" to do well your first year. You should put forward your absolute best effort regardless of where you ultimately attend/what your goals are, just like many your classmates will do.

Indeed, I think the general gospel is "DO NOT ASSUME YOU CAN TRANSFER."

I didn't say he SHOULD... just saying it's an option... obviously don't go to a school you wouldn't be comfortable graduating from

+180. How much of a difference would there really be careerwise between a BU + Sorbonne LLM grad and a T14 grad, both in terms of biglaw and non-biglaw?

Retake in June and submit a deposit at your top choice. If you get higher you loose the deposit but have your score. If you dont..then you got a law school.

I'd retake and apply. I wouldn't pay the 230k+ tuition + COL for UCLA sticker and I wouldn't go to BU or WUSTL.

Ugh. I'm doing EXACTLY the same thing, and with eerily similar numbers and prospects.

Honestly, I can't see myself taking another year off, and I envy you-- j'adore all things French. Let me know what you decide to do-- I'm leaning toward putting down a deposit at UCLA, betting on getting into GULC off the super-special waitlist, and praying to get into Northwestern (I'm held there right now). I don't know wtf's going on with Cornell, but I haven't heard anything yet and I've been complete forever...anyway, I'm just going to end up forfeiting a bit of money no matter what.

Good luck!

Also in the same boat, in Seoul doin' the ESL thing. Can't retake a 4th time though.

I think tuition + COL = far less than 230k.

i was in your shoes last year. 168, ivy 3.8ish, i also majored in comp lit, french was even one of my languages. i applied late and did not get into the T14s i wanted. i didn't study enough and was a little half hearted with my application. so i spent another year abroad, sucked it up, retook and reapplied. at the time i thought, i'll buckle down, do some serious studying, and have another year of work experience under my belt. there's no way i'd be a weaker candidate. when i only got a 2 point bump on my second take, i was really pissed off. the whole thing also cost me another 1000 bucks or so, what with flying around trying to take the LSATs in countries that had them. anyway, even with all the extra hassle, it turns out i made the right decision, and i am so very glad i did not settle.

if you really take a look at all the areas of your application with a critical eye and see that there's no way you can improve on any of it, then go this year. but the problem is, you're really on the cusp of so many schools, and sometimes you just have shit luck. your luck may change next year. if you want the T14, don't be a pussy and settle.

Totally retake. Your gpa combined with a 170+ lsat score should definitely get you into one of the T6 and definitely the T14.

So? Any update? What did you decide? I finally got into NU (held, then accepted) and Cornell (never even held, just late as f*ck), and I'm deciding between the two-- any movement on your WLs?

BU is such a t14 reject school. Everybody there (with the possible exception of blindmelon) wants to be somewhere else
