Thus the cheap, refurbished thinkpad with a 90 day warranty. I was forced to lease a Thinkpad from my undergrad for junior and senior year, and was really impressed. If the one I'm sent is a dud, Overstock.com allows full refund returns in the first 30 days.
Wouldn't it be more logical to just buy one laptop and if that ever failed, then buy another?
I am considering doing this. I'm waiting till I have the N71 in my hands before pulling the trigger on the second one. More or less, I've decided the N71 is the best laptop choice for my preferences, but I feel like there will be times when I'd rather just grab something much smaller to tote around. I'll want the extra resolution, number pads, and extra size to the monitor when I'm writing papers or preparing outlines, and I'd like to be able to do that in places other than my bedroom. However, I think that just for class notes I could use something much smaller, and avoid the bulk of the 17 incher.

If I get the Asus and decide I don't mind carrying it everywhere, I'll wait on buying a refurbished spare till there's trouble.

Is anyone waiting for the HP Envy 14 to come out before they make a purchase? Right now I'm leaning towards a 13" MBP but I really like the idea of getting a similarly priced machine with an equally tough casing, a larger screen, similarly long battery life, and more power (Core i5 instead of Core 2 duo).

Speaking of this whole two laptop business...

I made the switch to Mac a bit ago and absolutely fell in love. It does everything I need it to way better than my laptop did, and my lenovo was quite nice. I love OSX, love how fast it loads up, love how fast it is in general, love the multi-touch pad, yadda yadda yadda.

Now...are you guys trying to say that I'm going to need a PC laptop as well in law school? If so, would a simple netbook do? I'm really not looking to buy two identical machines just because one's a mac and one's a pc. I'd much rather use any for-computer money for other computer related things.

You know you could buy Windows and just install it side by side with OS X, right? There's even a chance your school could give you a free copy (mine does).

If you need help installing it, talk to this guy

I've heard of it. Don't know what all it entails. Simple process? Not really? I'm decent with computers when I know how to do something but I'm always weary when I don't. I'm by no means an expert.

That refurbished T42 for $287.49 seems like a killer deal even if it was just for a backup labtop or something. Anyone have any experience with overstock or the T42 they want to share? I'm thinking about getting it.

For anyone curious, they usually let you pay the difference and buy better models, so you could get a classic for $50 (not a bad backup device) or a 32 gb Touch for $100 after the rebate.

Do you have to go into a store, because their website does not say anything about it?

Notwithstanding the giant banner advertising the back-to-school promotion.

Can anyone tell me if there is any drawback beside size/weight (the difference in these seem small to me) between the Lenovo T510 and T410?
It is $100 cheaper to buy the T510 than the T410 with my prefered configuration right now.

It's also my understanding, computerly moronic as it may be, that the 4GB is a huge advantage when running bootcamp/parallels for compatibility.

This, but if you really want the white macbook you can always upgrade to 4GB.
