0L's & Beer

Just wondering if any bored beer drinkers would do me a solid and take a quick survey about beer?

I'm an MBA student and fellow law school applicant who needs to complete a team project on Sam Adams to graduate, but spends way too much time lurking on this board and is addicted to LSN.

Here's the link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5DLBNMY

A little background, we are studying the brand Sam Adams and need to gather quantitative data on brand awareness, perception, and loyalty. This data will be analyzed and used to develop a new branding strategy. The brews in the survey are all better beer sub-brands of Boston Beer's top 3 competitors; InBev, Heineken, & MillerCoors. In the interest of full disclosure, some of the terms in the survey like 'happiness' and 'cheerfulness' are a bit silly, but then again, in my humble opinion, so is marketing...

Also, if you have anything else to add about Sam Adams, feel free to PM me if you like, I posted on the Law Student board and a couple people had strong feelings about the brand which I'll include in the project write-up.

Thanks!

Took the survey. First thing that comes to mind with Sam Adams: "It's okay".

That's not a bad thing, just not a great thing. Much better than Icehouse, PBR, Bud, Miller, Coors, and any number of domestic beers. I feel like Blue Moon definitely trumps, but it's a solid cheap beer. Usually willing to shell out the extra cash for an import though. Sometimes I'll pick up sam adams lager with Newcastle if we're having a party for people that like lighter beers, but sam adams brown ale just doesn't do it.

Thanks holydonkey!

That seems to be a lot of the feedback that we've gotten, although people do like their seasonal beers. I think Oblomov compared Sam Adams to Starbucks, ubiquitous, corporate, and drinkable.

I took it. I absolutely despise their Boston Ale, but the Summer, Winter, and Oktoberfest are pretty good. Especially the summer ale.

Sam adams is my staple drink. Unless the local beer man is offering something special or I decide to splurge. I usually pick up a 12 pack of Sam Adams. I almost didn't apply to WUSTL because I heard they had free beer on Thursday and it was Bud.

Budweiser is my favorite "mass domestic." Don't hate.

Every Sam Adams beer I've drank has been good- except for the flagship Boston Lager. Not gonna lie- it tastes like shit. So bitter. But other than that, Sam Adams has shown me that East Coast beer can be good. Originally from the West, where they drink that fruity light beer.

Boston Lager is the only Sam Adams I have ever had, and I disliked it greatly. From what you guys say, I should try a different brew.

Noble Pils is the only Sam Adams I've had that is worth anything.

I think if you're going for the less than 7 dollar six pack you might as well get Pabst.

Ha! It's not a real night until you've had a PBR. Or a Natty Lite.

There isn't enough alcohol in Natural Lite to justify the flavor. Natty is for vagholes (no offense ladies) who can't handle themselves but want to try and keep drinking with the big dogs.

+1

I just took that survey and decided to take a Sam Adams Winter Lager out of my fridge and drink it right now. Ahhh...

(don't care for the Boston Lager, either)

Yah. The flavor's terrible. I haven't had one in years. But it's more for people who want to drink more beer for less money.

Boston Lager is great. Sam Adams is always a solid go-to. If I'm going for quantity, Yuengling is choice.

Overcompensation. Some might call it limpdicking (pardon my french) it.

The hotties go for single malt scotch neat drinkers.

Hate Sam Adams.

If it is not from New Belgium or Bristol Brewing or a unique micro-brew I am most likely not going to drink it. Unless it is Strongbow, love the Strongbow. Best beer hands down is Mass Transit from Bristol though!

Boston Lager is definitely the default beer choice at a bar or the grocery. Also, it´s the largest American-owned brewery, so it makes me feel truly patriotic :D . Generally I don´t care for their seasonal brews, but the Winter Lager was pretty good and I really like the Noble Pils as the weather gets warmer.

I´m a non-trad applicant, and I remember drinking PBR when it was $8.50 a case. Four six backs in a flat box. Before it somehow mysteriously got hip. Great marketing, though, ever since the PBR me ASAP.

Thanks to everyone who's taken the survey!

Has anyone tried Sam Adams extreme, imperial, or barrel room collection brews?

There's more to the brand than the Boston Lager...
