How are sections determined?

At a law forum I asked admissions officer Amy Stevens of USC how USC determines sections. She said they manually select people for sections in order to create diverse learning environments. I don't know exactly what they use (ethnicity, state, etc.) but it's not random.

I asked her if this is standard, and she said no.

Section stacking sounds terrible! I'll make sure to ask this question to schools that offered me a scholarship before I enroll. Thanks for the tip.

I asked the admissions personnel at UTK, IU-I, and UofL and they all said alphabetically.

I know those aren't exactly the crème de la crème, but they're the only ones I've had the opportunity to ask.

BLS CLAIMS to use a high end software to make it as evenly spread out as possible based on race, gender, undergrad, etc

Yeah. They probably use the ULTIMATE in spreadsheet software to make lists of who goes where.
