do LOCIs work?

I understand that any evidence will be purely anecdotal. With that said, does anyone know of an instance in which someone thinks he got in with the help of a loci? do adcomms ever point to a loci as a determining factor, or do people commonly get admitted off WLs amidst a sea of lsn yellow? I'm not looking for motivation to write mine, im just genuinely curious.

Yes! I got waitlisted at 8 schools. The only two I've gotten in at I sent LOCI's to. My acceptances took 3 months to come from the day i applied but only 5 days after the schools said they received my LOCI. Possibly a coincidence but I doubt it.

I'd say no. It is just a tool (post waitlist decision) that reminds schools that you are interested.

Unless, of course, you cure cancer.

I think my LOCI's are the most logical explanation for the fact that I got waitlisted at BC but got into Fordham and Cornell. A lot of people also said don't send them pre-decision but admissions officers at Cornell and Georgetown said they are strongly encouraged. I don't know about other schools but those two seemed pretty enthusiastic about students sending them even pre-decision.

I think you got WL @ BC because of yield protection.

To whom do you address a LOCI? To the dean of admissions by name or the admissions committee or...? Thanks!

Thats very possible but if I wrote a LOCI I never would have gotten that yield protection waitlist. After the BC incident I made sure to write one to Fordham and I got in five days later.

sure, but there are two types of WL. Yours where they want to YP. And mine where they like my GPA and think my LSAT is ok but would rather be LSAT-whores and try to get someone w/ a one or two point higher LSAT. Not complaining, but there is a difference.

but yes I would agree that your LOCI did work. I have less confidence that mine will make much difference.
