Questions about UNLV Law (Boyd) Admission

Postby NUMB3RFIFTY » Sat Mar 06, 2010 11:19 pm

Background: Survivor of a life threatening illness. I went to school during therapy, and was confined to my bed for 2 days a week due to pain. Attending UNLV Law has been my dream since I was a child, but I fear my illness may have messed up my grades to a point where I won't get in.

I took the LSAT with a portable IV: Scored 146
GPA of 2.6

I have 7 years of work experience in the Technology field.
Several hundred hours of full time community service for the last 8 years.

What is the Lowest GPA/LSAT that they accept?

What questions did they ask you during your phone interview?

Do you know anything about how they evaluate applicants?

I'm looking into the fellowship program because of my community service; Is this a good idea? and is the program competitive?

Thank you all for your time and help

Edit: I'm considered an ethnic minority.

UNLV's 25th Percentile GPA is a 3.2, and the 75th is a 3.71. The 25th LSAT is 155 and 75th is 160. I don't know anything about the phone interview. I can tell you 90% of their admission decision comes from your GPA and LSAT score (as with most schools).

What minority are you? Not that it really matters, because even as a URM, law school predictor puts you under 5% chance. You'll need to retake the LSAT for sure, and probably to at least a 157 or 158 as a URM to even have a shot with that GPA.

Here are URMs with an LSAT between a 146 and a 150:

Doesn't look very promising.

And here's a URM with a 157 and a 2.7 who was accepted:

Looks like raising that LSAT may very well be the answer.

You certainly sound like an exceptional case. Write a brilliant PS and GPA/LSAT addendum to explain your situation and you might have a chance. Otherwise, you will have to retake the LSAT on hope for something around a 160. Best of luck.......

You don't really have an excuse for the piss poor LSAT. Retake.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I really appreciate it.

I don't think there are any LSAT dates coming up in time that would be relevant to my Fall 2010 application.

I guess I'll just have to keep praying, and hope that fellowship program makes any sort of difference.

Is anyone actually a Boyd student right now?

Good luck. If you dont get in for Fall 2010 retake and make sure to score AT LEAST a 157. There doesn't seem to be any Boyd students on here, but here are some threads that you can follow for more info on the school.

Get into contact with vegas_rebel; he is a UG there and seems to be quite knowledgable about the school.

Sorry about the late reply, a good friend of mine is at UNLV, you can PM me any questions you want me to ask him.
