I have a 153 - 3.47. I was scoring in the low 160s on my practice tests and am considering whether or not to re-take. BUT if I was to re-take I would want to wait until October and really spend a good 6 months getting prepared for it. Of course this would mean that I would have to take a year off and work.

I am trying to determine what the best options are, work wise, while taking a year off?

In this economy, the best option is something that pays you regularly. Follow your interests, but it's nasty out there. That said, I can't imagine going to school straight from undergrad. Stay out a few years if you can.

If you were scoring in the 160's but got a 153 on test day, it sounds like you just freaked out(or you weren't taking practice test under LSAT conditions). I don't see the need to spend 6 whole months prepping for your next one.

My suggestion: Line up a summer job. Prep hard for the June test. 3 months is plenty of time. Relax and do well on it. Apply as soon as the apps open in September. By the time you apply, you will just be finishing up your summer job and won't even have to include what you do for most of your year off on the application.

That gives you the freedom to do whatever you want to make ends meet not have to worry about what law schools think about it.
