The Pre-WinterBreak Bump

Post by cavebat2000 » Fri Feb 26, 2010 3:22 pm

For all current LSAT takers and those will search to find this thread, this admissions cycle has ostensibly shown one thing to be very true.

APPLY TO LAW SCHOOLS AT LEAST 1.5 MONTHS BEFORE WINTER BREAK.

I see example after example of people who applied way early having excellent cycles, getting fully admitted plus scholarships to institutions that had they applied to after the break, may have very well ended up in the deny, waitlist purgatory that so many of us have experienced this cycle.

I am not sure why, but I suspect that law schools don't know enough about the applications cycle that early in the cycle and so do their initial admits without much of a context. After the break, when they have received their 10-20% increase in applications they know you aren't really as impressive as they thought you were because they are looking at all the YHS, CCN applicants who consider Michigan a safety school.

Feel free to disagree with or support this hypothesis

I think I certainly underestimated the bump, regardless I am happy with my decision to retake the LSAT in December.
