Isn't there a landmark court case in which a Jewish man claimed that the University of Washington Law School used discriminatory admission practices because they admitted URM's with lower numbers than ORM's, such as Jews? I think that there are a bunch of papers and books on this.

Yes. People of Jewish descent have long experienced discrimination in legal hiring practices. Though this discrimination is in decline, the legacy of exclusion of Jews from the legal field has prompted many law schools to undertake initiatives which actively seek to increase the volume of applications submitted by Jewish people. One of the ultimate goals of these initiatives is to train Jewish lawyers who will one day move on to become the first generation of Jewish partners in law firms. New York City firms are especially in need of partner diversity.

Actually. Most of the top tier NYC law firms did have an unspoken policy of discrimination towards jews. See, founding of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz..

However, as a practical matter, the ORM designation is generally right on..
