Yale: Yield Factor In Play?

Post by englawyer » Tue Feb 02, 2010 2:14 pm

I have noticed a few people applied and got into H, but did not apply to Yale. However, most people that apply to Yale also apply to Harvard.

It seems those with H numbers and H as a first choice might just bypass Yale altogether, because it is hard enough to get into and can't really be considered a Harvard "safety" school. Yale also has the (slightly) more onerous application with the 250, extra-curricular lists, etc.

Could this perhaps account for some of the difference in yield between the two schools?

Yield Stats from LSN:

Harvard: 67%
Yale: 76%

I think it's because Yale just doesn't give a fuck.

Harvard accepts a lot of people around its medians without great softs, so those applicants would probably not apply to Yale. OTOH, anyone who thinks they have a decent chance at Yale probably has auto-admit numbers for Harvard.
