GPA College Mean

Post by MichelFoucault » Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:47 pm

Just curious about the other schools. I took summer classes at Columbia and saw there average GPA was 3.52 (talk about grade inflation). At my UG school it was 3.30

Astonishingly, my GPA which is greater than 4.0 is still only 96% at my school?! wtf!! distribution of grades are probably heavily skewed.

I think it would be interesting to comprise a list.

So far I got:

Hunter College CUNY - 3.30
Columbia College - 3.52

Please add your UG school and mean.

i like the idea of this. it will make it easier to see the distribution of GPAs between schools, not to mention majors and outside situations. The LSAT isn't perfect, but it is better than just GPA.

I'm pretty sure that there was another thread that had this information. I'll see if I can find it.

In the meantime...
BYU: 3.42 (Same as Utah State apparently)

you mean the gpa of applicants to law school ?
Average gpa of a University of Toronto graduate is a ~2.3.
The number on my LSAC reports is 3.01.

Nooooooobody can talk about grade deflation after this !

Stanford - 3.54

Median is 3.60 (since the top 3 intervals under percentage distribution of GPAs add up to 50%)

Is that from LSAC?

I think the LSAC reports the GPA mean of the law school applicants of the college, which presumably, would be higher than the true GPA college mean

anyway, it's 3.23 at James Madison University

I believe that's the mean GPA for Columbia's School of Continuing Education, since summer courses are run through them and not the College. The College's mean GPA is 3.54.

Trinity University - approximately 3.15

it sucks. I'm incredibly jealous of anyone with 3.5+ gpa means.

From gradeinflation.net (who knows how reliable that is?) edit: never mind, it comes from the ASU Factbook, so I guess it's somewhat legit

Appalachian State - 2.93
