16.

I have a 166/3.87 which puts me bottom 25 for the lower half of the T-14. I have 5-25% odds at Georgetown, Duke, Berkeley, Virginia, and so you know... drop the money on all and maybe I get lucky at one.

As for the 15-30 range, all are equal I'm looking for money.

I'm surprised by how many the average TLSer (non-splitter) applies to. I only applied to 5.

Anyone doing fewer than 8-10 schools these days is taking a huge chance, no matter what their numbers look like. I have 20 schools, all waived. I may add five more based on what I am hearing from other applicants, or if my cycle begins takes a funny turn. I have them sitting in que filled out with attachments, ready to go.

Applied to 33. All waived except UNLV, which has a stated policy of never allowing the app fee to be waived.

TITCR Undergrad = $$$$$$$ and 1000+ hours. A couple of dozen law school apps = $1,000 (two-three weeks at a bullshit job) and an hour or two each. Do people not realize that an extra app can mean the difference between a half and a full ride? IMHO anyone that applies to less than 5 schools w/o exceptional numbers or a serious desire to attend one particular school is an idiot.

I know I did 7, but at least in my case I know I want to be in GA or FL, so it was pretty easy to just apply to a few. Some others must be in the same boat.

To all of you who got fee waivers, did you get them through the LSAC fee waiver program, by requesting it from schools, or were they hidden in the LSAC checkout? I'm curious how people apply to 25 schools with 20+ fee waivers unless their numbers were competitive for all those schools. Do law schools just readily give out fee waivers to anyone who asks?

Last year I applied to nine schools, got rejected at four and waitlisted-->out at the other five. Believe me when I say, "Don't apply late in the cycle."

I applied to two schools this year, one of which gave me a fee waiver, and I ended up withdrawing from that school. Total cost of applications: $75, spent on the school I'll be attending. Note that this is an extremely poor strategy; I'm just adding an interesting data point for your consideration.

I've seen your data points on TLS as we have similar numbers, what the hell happened? Is it all just how late you applied? How late we talking here? :(

Part of it was a lower LSAT: 170 instead of 175. Still, someone with my GPA and a 170 should have gotten into one of either Virginia, Georgetown, or Michigan under normal circumstances.

Due to a mix-up with LSAC and a transcript-sending school, my applications didn't get in last year until 1/28. I'm pretty sure that's what screwed me.

Yeah, the problem with having a 3.5/170 is that you're a below-median GPA splitter, and there's just not much room for those late in the cycle. In general, applicants are still likely to get into schools at which they meet both medians, but that wouldn't be any T14's in your case.

The second time around, you did quite well, even if you only applied to 2 schools.

I applied to 17 schools, paid for 4. Currently freaking out because I'm a splitter and applied pretty late, but I do have solid softs that I'm hoping and praying will help me out. I also threw in a few of the applications to free schools as a "what the hell, why not?" Considering applying for a foreign masters in case I don't get in to a good school this cycle, and then I'll reapply next year. LSAT scores are good for 5 years, right? haha

Applied to 19. 6 Reaches. 7 Targets. 6 Safeties.

Probably excessive, but I figured this is the one and only time I'll be applying to law school and this is a tough year. Paid about $900.

I agree with this. Most people don't need safeties unless they are fishing for significant scholarships.

I applied to way too many schools, but I'm an extreme splitter. I applied to Fordham, GW, UC H and D, University of Washington when I shouldn't have because I don't want NYC, DC or Seattle. I applied to Harvard, Chicago, and Columbia when I had no shot.

Applied to 17; paid for HYS and Boalt.

DEFINITELY pay the app fees. I almost didn't apply to YS because I was VERY poor. Putting that $200 on a different credit card got those apps out, and I snuck into Stanford.

with a 167 and 3.39 i applied to 4 real reaches (T-14), 4 targets (T20-30), and 2 safeties (T-50). my cycle has been extremely predictable, with WL/rejects at all 4 reaches (all T14), ins at all 4 targets (from $0-$$$), and in with $$$$ at both safeties.
