Re: PLEASE WITHDRAW FROM SCHOOLS YOU'RE NOT GOING TO ATTEND
Everyone's gotta look out for number one. Hold onto those acceptances until you're sure you won't be attending and won't be using them for leverage. Otherwise, sure, withdraw. I've withdrawn from all tier-2's I applied to, and will likely be withdrawing from a few more schools in the next week or so, but I don't want to screw myself over just because someone might be waiting on "my spot."

Re: PLEASE WITHDRAW FROM SCHOOLS YOU'RE NOT GOING TO ATTEND
For the record, I'll reiterate that there's 100% absolutely nothing wrong with people waiting until the deadline to notify schools of their choices. Everyone worked very hard for this and everyone has the right to see their cycles through. I'm specifically addressing folks sitting on admissions from schools they legitimately have no possibility of attending (or using for leverage)...or, conversely, waiting for decisions from schools they are no longer interested in due to the fact that they've already been admitted at a higher-priority school.
I've seen this several times on this board from different folks, and from my understanding, it could affect others' cycles in the end, especially when schools have to keep their yield numbers in mind. Withdrawing before you get a decision could conceivably have a different effect on the applicant pool than withdrawing after acceptance.
At the end of the day, it's your perogative to deal with your cycle as you wish, especially after all of the effort and app fees. But regardless of the fact that applicants have no obligation to other applicants, I do personally think that it's a good thing to do -- withdrawing ASAP from any schools you are certain you won't be attending.

I think booby has some merit....but she even acknowledges those on waiting lists are benefitted by people withdrawingBioEBear2010 wrote:Scholarships...

also, I understand the leverage...and completely agree with it...just dont use it as an excuse
people are currently getting placed on waiting lists...why not start now, if you know you will not attend a school?Thirteen wrote:Agreed. The earliest this should be posted (if it ever should be posted) is March.BioEBear2010 wrote:Scholarships...

I've withdrawn from two safeties already, but I'll hold onto my waitlists for dear life.

that said, if someone KNOWS that they definitely NOT attend a certain school, and scholarships or whatever else is not a factor, then it seems that belt-notching is the only reason not to withdraw. but once you got accepted, isn't your belt already notched?

+1. My waitlists so far have come from very good schools, and want to hang on to them in case there is a chance, albeit slim chance, that i get into one of them.DoctorNick189 wrote:I've withdrawn from two safeties already, but I'll hold onto my waitlists for dear life.
as for my acceptances, I have no idea where I want to go, and could see myself going to any one of them, this being the reason that I applied to them. My decision is going to come down to the last moment, when I am finally able to weight my total (hearing from all schools) options. Sorry if I am taking spots from someone, but I need to make a decision with all the cards on the table, so to speak, and not short myself from an acceptance or two for someone else.

No reason to apologize. Sounds like you did the right thing in the first place and applied to schools you would really consider going to!sarlis wrote:+1. You're right. The two or three typos rendered this completely unable to be read.bloodonthetracks wrote:this is not englishreasonable_man wrote:Thought I graduated from LS in 08 and an already a practicing lawyer, since the number of apps is through the roof this year, I decided back in September to apply to all 200+ schools on a lark. Re: PLEASE WITHDRAW FROM SCHOOLS YOU'RE NOT GOING TO ATTEND
Sorry, I still haven't made the time-honored decision of T10 vs T20 with money vs state school for free and I'm in no rush to make it without all of my options on the table. You can be sure that I am sending out all of my withdrawal forms the same time I send out my seat deposit.

Schools account for people holding spots that they eventually never take.
Its not like schools give out only as many acceptances as they have seats.

Hey Op, for future reference, take a look at the difference between these two sentences and consider which version you think might work better next time.
