Does deferred essentially mean denied? Forum

I received an e-mail today saying "Although you have not been chosen for admission at this time your application has been deferred for consideration later in the cycle."

Should I give up hope or do I still have a realistic chance at admission? Basically is being deferred essentially being denied?

My LSAT was right at the median by the way.


Lastly, does anyone who has been deferred or simply knows more about this have any advice on what I should do now and what my chances might be?

Nope. I know quite a few people who were deferred. Expect many deferrals this cycle. Everyone and their mother wants to get into law school this cycle.

No! But make sure you send a LOCI and maybe consider an LSAT re-take if it's your dream school.

Absolutely not. It means exactly what the statement says. Admissions offices are rational-actors. They're trying to put together the best possible class profile they can. This takes patience and maneuvering to accomplish. Hang in there. Send a LOCI.
