Thank you...Unfortunately, my mom just called and he's lost several family members, two who were visiting from the US. I just can't believe this tragedy. I'm continuing to pray for everyone there and all those around the globe with family member in Haiti.OperaSoprano wrote:We will.heathbar88 wrote:$20 from me
My little sister's fiance is from the island & he still hasn't been able to reach his family. Please pray for his family and all the people of Haiti.

Re: Haiti Quake Please Help!
I gave $25 (with a employer match - bringing the total to $50) . If I can scrape together the cash to apply to a law school I'm ambivalent about attending I can damn well scrape together the cash to help save some lives.
EDIT: I also should say that I spent some time in parts of Southeast Asia that were devastated by the tsunami a couple years back. International aid made a HUGE difference in curtailing disease and violence and getting people back on their feet after that catastrophe. Donating money isn't just about saving people's lives *right now* (though that is certainly the first priority). It's also about building new infrastructure and support networks that save lives and lift people out of poverty five and ten years down the line. This isn't just charity, it's investing in a better world.

Gonna see if I can find a way to donate. Currently I'm a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa, so it's a little more difficult (that whole, only making $3K/year--not a typo--and not having a bank account to access makes it less than easy)--but hopefully I can convince my family, who've been helping with the $12 LSAC fees (I've received fee wavers to all the actual schools I've applied to, obviously), to pay AT LEAST 10-12 with the knowledge I'll pay them back when I get my readjustment allowance!

$3,300 altogether, plus beta's frequent flier miles, said to be worth another $2,000.

This is essentially true. I can get two restricted round-trip first-class tickets for 100,000 miles, so yeah, about $2000 value. If only they were redeemable for cash, indeed...!0L Hoping for 1 wrote:100,000 miles is worth about $2000 dollars is what I found on the intrawebz
