What are my Chances of getting in somewhere decent?

Post by ssalmon5 » Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:31 am

Okay, So I know I am extremely late this cycle, but am planning on getting everything out this weekend.

LSAT:154 not great at all
GPA: 2.72
URM, Black
Born in Jamaica
College: University of Florida
Major: East Asian Literature and Language: Japanese
Minor: Agricultural and Natural Resource Law
Job: Japanese Spinal Implant Company, Project Manager

I have lived and worked in Japan for almost 3 and a half years and speak Japanese pretty well. I travel a lot (about 120,000 miles a year) and have been struggling to find the time to get everything done and sent off. I just want to know from the experienced masses. Applying this late. What are my chances of gettin in somewhere decent. I want to be on the East Coast.

Where are you thinking of applying?

Clearly your numbers aren't wonderful (though for an AA your LSAT is considerably higher than average) but your story, so to speak, should carry you into some schools from which you may have otherwise been rejected.

What kind of schools do you consider decent?

I don't know the numbers range for a few of those schools but I strongly doubt that you would be accepted to any of them. You should not approach your poor LSAT score with the attitude of "but whatever." Instead, retake and improve by 10 points and your chances at admission would simply skyrocket.

Hi I'm new here but I think you may have a chance at Howard.

This is from the FAQ section on their website:
What was the average LSAT and UGPA (undergraduate grade point average) for accepted student in the HUSL class of 2008?
154 (LSAT) 3.4 (UGPA)

Your GPA is a bit low but maybe your other experiences will help.

I think you've got a few too many reaches. If you're adamant about applying this cycle, you should probably apply to a few more that are around your level. Since your GPA is quite low, you'd be better off waiting, taking a prep course, and retaking... but I definitely understand not wanting to do that.
