Your differences seem so minuscule it's scary. Are you really that afraid of an A-????

For what it's worth, I have to Ps (one from an internship I took for credit during school) and one W on mine. Thus far it hasn't had any affect on me and I doubt it will. But if you are considering a P because an A- seems unbearable you have problems that extend well beyond a 10th of a GPA point.

EDIT: If I were in a position where I was carefully analyzing your transcript, I would honestly find it fishy that you took a P in a class in which you always got As, and got As in subsequent semesters.

Absolutely not. I took 5 classes pass/fail (out of 29), have a withdrawal (from a block I took off) and a 3.8x GPA. Seriously, don't worry about it, if the rest of your package is strong.

I've read on this site that too many Ps should be avoided. I already have a P and a W (unpenalized) from freshman year (my parents were going through a messy divorce and I was almost going to drop out of school) that I'll explain in an addendum, but I've had a pretty decent track record otherwise.

So should I take a second P in my senior year and try to finish the next two quarters of Arabic with As (I've had all As in Arabic up until now and I screwed up my grade last quarter for a very stupid reason), or should I take a slightly lower GPA to avoid a second P on my transcript?

Edit: I'm aiming for HYS and I'm trying to end up with a 3.83 instead of a 3.82... which will be harder if I don't take a P.
wow both are such miniscule differences, i dont think it'd matter. 2 P's and an unpenalized W dont look worlds diff from 1 P and an unpenalized W, esp. w/ an addendum.

personally though, the diff between 3.83 and 3.82 is nothing. id rather show adcomms i ended my college career strong (not slacking off w/ a P). that A- wouldnt hurt you one bit i bet at HYS.

To me, when I see a "P" it makes me think "C" or that you're hiding a really subpar grade, which an A- definitely is not. And honestly, the .01-.02 probably isn't going to matter all that much. If you have an HYS-caliber LSAT, pretty much all 3.8x GPAs are going to look similar.

If I were you, I'd just take the A-.

Obviously a 3.82 or 3.83 is great..... UNLESS you're aiming for Harvard, Stanford, or Yale, in which case it's below the median and for Yale (and probably Stanford) the 25th percentile as well. and then the points start to matter.
But the thing is... those .01-.02 points don't matter. Median for H is 3.88, Y is 3.9, and S is 3.87. The 25ths for S/H are 3.7x, and Yale is 3.81. You're already above 25ths everywhere, but enough below median that a 3.82 vs. a 3.83 will make NO difference. Seriously. Plus, at Y/S, those points really really aren't going to matter, because they both rely so heavily on softs in the admissions process.

So really, just take the A-.

^that is the correct response

a bunch of P/Fs do not look good, and personally i avoided them completely...but you already have 1, so that bridge is crossed. the 0.02 diff really makes NO diff, even for HYS, for the above reasons that eskimo stated.

you're already below median, as long as you're above the 25th and below the median, they really are focusing on other things. you have to realize, 0.01 GPA is not like 1 LSAT point, which can matter a lot more lol. at this point id focus on your softs and polishing other things. 0.01 GPA diff is nothing for HYS even.
