wow both are such miniscule differences, i dont think it'd matter. 2 P's and an unpenalized W dont look worlds diff from 1 P and an unpenalized W, esp. w/ an addendum.countercouper wrote:So I'm entering the final stretch of college with either a 3.81 or a 3.82 (LSAC GPA), depending on whether I take a P (instead of an A-) in my last Intermediate Arabic class. I've read on this site that too many Ps should be avoided. I already have a P and a W (unpenalized) from freshman year (my parents were going through a messy divorce and I was almost going to drop out of school) that I'll explain in an addendum, but I've had a pretty decent track record otherwise.
So should I take a second P in my senior year and try to finish the next two quarters of Arabic with As (I've had all As in Arabic up until now and I screwed up my grade last quarter for a very stupid reason), or should I take a slightly lower GPA to avoid a second P on my transcript?
Edit: I'm aiming for HYS and I'm trying to end up with a 3.83 instead of a 3.82... which will be harder if I don't take a P.
But the thing is... those .01-.02 points don't matter. Median for H is 3.88, Y is 3.9, and S is 3.87. The 25ths for S/H are 3.7x, and Yale is 3.81. You're already above 25ths everywhere, but enough below median that a 3.82 vs. a 3.83 will make NO difference. Seriously. Plus, at Y/S, those points really really aren't going to matter, because they both rely so heavily on softs in the admissions process.countercouper wrote:ok thanks for the responses. I realize this is one of those questions you can't ask in real life because people will think you're totally insane. Obviously a 3.82 or 3.83 is great..... UNLESS you're aiming for Harvard, Stanford, or Yale, in which case it's below the median and for Yale (and probably Stanford) the 25th percentile as well. and then the points start to matter.
^that is the correct responseeskimo wrote:But the thing is... those .01-.02 points don't matter. Median for H is 3.88, Y is 3.9, and S is 3.87. The 25ths for S/H are 3.7x, and Yale is 3.81. So really, just take the A-.
