This is definitely not fair to me - I've been waiting for over 3 months for a decision. My stats are above their 75ths but it's one of my top choices and I haven't heard anything. I would ED, but I really need $$$ to select them over some of my acceptances. Do you think late EDs have any shot at good scholarship $$$? Will this hurt RD applicants waiting for a decision?
To you? Spare me.

I personally know of a UVA ED applicant (in-state) with a 175+ who got $30k/yr.

Yea I agree but I am struggling with how they might be off. Care to enlighten me?
No I'm with you. The cycle is obviously different from what people expected, but I'm just not exactly sure how. I'm with talib too, if it wasn't for the fact that the only schools I would have picked over UVA were HYS, and I had not shot at those schools, I'd be pissed right now.
Yea if I didn't love UVA as much as I did and I just ED to try to lock up a T14 spot I would be pretty pissed right now. Luckily I love UVA and am only mildly disconcerted. :(

^^ This. I love the move. Get off your f-ing ass and admit me Michigan! :D

Yea, to be fair they do seem to be fair in giving out money to ED applicants if you have the numbers.

If it wasn't for their garbage about having to start in the summer, I would have EDed to Michigan.

Locked in too many 170s when it looks like could have gone for a 171 median?
I didn't understand there ED strategy at all. Using ED with a 15 day turn around to make numbers gain? Genius. But then they were aiming just to keep last years numbers. And this was supposed to be the year everyone and their mother went to law school.

i think the value of a well-written why mich or why penn essay just went up by several multiples. i guess if you can make it clear that you're committed to them, you could really up your chances.

What are "the numbers"? Last year about 2/3 of folks with similar numbers to me got some money (no full rides), but none were ED.

To be fair, on average, you need a 30% spike in applicants to move (EDIT: LSAT) medians a point. Its much easier to lock in the 170 and move the GPA median instead. Shoot for the 171 next year if you were close this year.

I was admitted ED in October and don't really care as this won't affect me, but I wanted to stop in and say WTF all the same.

Uhh... do you know how few people get above a 170? The number of people who get 170s is likely the same as the number of people getting above a 170.

So rayiner (I think) had a better post on this (applicant volume v. medians), but this is something similar (http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 5#p1837282).

If that is the goal it is going to work.
+1
This strikes me more as worry about matriculation rates/$$$ than an ap issues. Either that or they were expecting a bunch of superior people to come out of the Dec test, and instead a lot of the high scores were just retakers or people applying next cycle or mainly high GPA'ers who will likely go above UVA, who knows, but something off obviously that freaked them out.

Roughly equating, I think there are 1000 170 scorers, and 3000 >170 scorers.

edit: The previous sentence didn't make sense.

So exactly who benefits from this extension?

One thing is for sure it is not going to be as easy to predict ED applicants as it was before they extended the deadline.

A 3.85 or a 170 is probably not a guarantee any more.

170+s with no T10 acceptance on March 1, 11:59 PM (EST).
