Assuming there was no scholarship money involved:
1. Yale
2. Harvard
3. Penn
4. Chicago
5. NYU
6. Columbia
7. Northwestern
8. Stanford
9. UVA
10 Berkeley
11. Duke
12. Michigan
13. Gtown
14. Cornell
15. Vandy
16. GWU
17. University of Hawaii
18. Minnesota
19. Illinois
20. W+L/BU/Temple/USD/UCLA

Actually MInnesota should be up higher because they already said yes and I love them in a first come, first served sort of way. Plus they offered 18K/yr. University of Hawaii gets a bump because I live here and own a home in HI. If you asked me tomorrow the list would probably be all different.

edited b/c I list GWU twice

I want SF, after that would work Chi, then STL/KC or DC. Not interested in NYC, LA or the South.

S
Y
H
B
Chicago
Columbia = NYU
*Northwestern
*V = M
P = D
*G
*Cornell
*WUSTL = UCLA = USC
*UIUC = *Hastings = *Davis

* = bothered to apply

S > HY and B > CCN for geography. Feel safe to assume CLS & NYU place better in SF than MVPNDCG. NU > MVP because those schools send a lot of folks east (but doesn't matter as I'm reject at MVP). Tied WUSTL with UCLA and USC since I'd be fine stuck with STL, but not LA.

Not promising I'd pay full tuition at all these schools, especially with UC tuition hikes; would need to consider it more. I wouldn't be shocked if there's some cognitive dissonance motivating my list. Don't really care enough to parse it out.

It's your list and your life, but you are going to have a lot more options in DC if you go to Stanford instead of GULC.

im gonna have to disagree with that kind of declarative statement. there are a lot more contingencies involved in what your options are than just the law school you attended...esp when both are T14

1. Yale
2. Stanford
3. Harvard
4. NYU/Chicago
6. Columbia
7. Penn
8. Northwestern/Duke/UVA
11. Berkeley/Michigan
13. Texas

Well, these threads are basically nothing but declarative statements, but I do think there's something to what I claimed. In the DC market, I think that a SLS grad is going to have advantages over a GULC grad with respect to big law, government, and academic jobs.

Don't get me wrong: I think that GULC is a great school. I am accepted there, and I might be attending in 2010. But I think we're kidding ourselves if we say that GULC and Stanford are roughly equivalent because "both are T14." GULC and Stanford are no more on the same level than Cornell and Harvard are. As painful as it is to accept, graduates of HYS are going to have a lot more opportunities than will graduates of schools in the lower T14.

Yes, of course. I mean, every year a small handful of University of Baltimore grads at the top of their class land jobs that median GULC grads don't get, but this does not mean that U of B and GULC grads have comparable opportunities overall. The general reputation of the school does matter, and Stanford is a couple steps up from GULC in this regard.

I applied to all of the above. Did not apply to those below:

And UVA over Stanford is understandable? Most of the lists are pretty unbelievable. I'm sure that if these people get into HYS they'd go and they wouldn't attend a tier 3/tier 2 over a T14 that gets you a job.

I would prefer to end up on the East Coast/Midwest (Chicago). Already in law school, but whatever:

1) Yale/Harvard
3) Stanford
4) Columbia/Chicago
6) NYU
7) Michigan/Penn
9) UVA/Duke
11) Berkeley
12) Northwestern/Cornell
14)Georgetown. Not sure if I would pay to go here.
List ends here because I wouldn't pay to go anywhere outside of the t-14.

I'm pretty region-centric. After #17, I'd probably wait, retake, apply again... whatever the circumstances might be.

No way! They are great schools. Otherwise, they would never make it into my top 20.
