GPA Addendum Question

Post by mes2010 » Tue Dec 22, 2009 11:46 am

So I already submitted my applications, but I am debating if I should add a GPA Addendum.

Let me explain.

I am a Double Major in my undergrad and when LSAC calculates your major GPA, they calculate it with both majors. However, my primary major GPA is a 3.96, while my secondary major GPA is like a 2.9. This caused my LSAC Major GPA to be a 3.24 and my overall GPA to be a 3.25.

I was wondering if it is stupid to write a GPA Addendum pointing out this difference. Specifically, in my primary GPA I have received straight As (only one B) and in any class related to law, including those taught by law professors, I have received As. I just think it's something that isn't noticeable on my LSAC report that might help if I point it out.

However, the only way I could see myself explaining it is simply how I found out later in my college career that one major was more for me than the other.

You can certainly add an addendum, but I am not sure how much it will help ... your GPA is your GPA!

When I go onto a LSAC Gpa calculator it comes out as:

Primary Major: 3.81
Secondary: 3.0

If you can write well I would 100% add a brief addendum.

Yes, but if there's a clear reason for something, why would it hurt to explain what that reason is? My major GPA is okay, but my overall GPA is terrible because I was a declared math major for a while while I took a bunch of econ classes and one public health-style bio class that I did moderately well to terribly in. The break is clear from scanning my transcript for more than ten seconds, as I am sure it is for most people in similar boats, but why not try to make them think, "Well, it would be a little higher if _____, and he does have a good LSAT score, so he's not an auto-reject," or something along those lines?

I was in the same boat with this, had one major that wasn't very nice to me and another that was....

I had to mention medical things in my addendum so I turned to my resume to try to highlight the different majors/very different GPA issue. under the education section, I had an extra line to put both majors' GPA's under the cumulative.

since you've already submitted and haven't included an addendum though, I would think its worth adding (if you can write a good one, as the poster above mentioned).

Wait, I thought your major GPA doesn't matter.

I was looking at my LSAC report and noticed that my GPA also goes:

1st year: 2.96
2nd year: 3.31
3rd year: 3.47
First semester this year: 3.6

Should I write an addendum to law schools concerning this combined with the stuff about my majors?

I'll also add in that there is a legitimate reason for why my GPA was like that.
