How do you make space between paragraphs??

Post by MapleM » Thu Nov 05, 2009 8:05 pm

I am writing my PS using the MS word.

What is the most academically appropriate way to make space between paragraphs??

Do you simply just hit "Enter" twice after you finish one paragraph and start next paragraph?

or

Do you change spacing in "Paragraph" in "Format" tab in MS word?
If so, what is the appropriate number for spacing "Before" and "After"?

Thanks!

No, you should write it like a college essay: Double-spaced, 11 or 12 pt. font, indented first line of every paragraph.

I'm sorry I am a foreign student so I'm not too familiar with the formatting for a college essay in the US.

I am referring to the style called "MLA" for formatting.

Is that what you are referring to??

Ahh. I'm sorry. I thought you asked because the PS's on here are posted with block paragraphs. The picture above is the way to do it.

After carefully looking at the image, I noticed that there are 6 spaces in the beginning of every paragraph...

My reference book for MLA and APA says that you need 5 spaces whenever you start a paragraph.

How many spaces do I really need??

Trust me, this is not important; the document gets converted to a PDF, and there is no way that one could tell the difference. I think most just hit the 'tab' key to indent.
