I feel this is much more of a PS than a DS, but I can't give you scientific reasons for that.
I find the equation of "mom worked long hours" with "dad hit us" (which is kind of hinted at more than expressed) a little off-putting, frankly, especially since the mom working thing is dropped and not explored at all, and doesn't seem to connect to the trajectory you otherwise draw of your life.
