I'm not sure if 8 W's will actually be a problem or not, but your PS is definitely not the place to write about it. If anything, it should be written about in an addendum. 8 is quite a bit but to be honest I don't think it will be a problem.

Your question was, "Do I need to add an addendum to my personal statement...?"

I can understand the prior poster's confusion, because it certainly seemed like you thought you were supposed to include this addendum in your PS. That's the only reason that anyone would mention that it doesn't go there.

And eight withdrawals seems like a lot, so yes, I'd submit a separate addendum that concisely explains why you had those withdrawals and that you're a changed man/woman.

You asked if you should write about it in your PS, and I said that wasn't really the place to write it. Also, an addendum isn't just for a bad GPA, it can be for anything. I mean, there's no doubt of the possibility that admissions committees will question your 8 W's, but they also might not care if you have the numbers they're looking for. So I would say write an addendum for it (but make it very very brief) just in case your withdrawals do raise questions and therefore they will have an explanation for it in your addendum.

You will have a concise statement about it if you devote some time and effort to writing a concise statement about it.

Also, no, don't be verbose and metaphoric. That's why people are saying "concise."
