I actually already changed mom to mother in a previous draft, but I guess it sneaked back in during a rewrite. Thanks for catching that.

I think you got what I meant when I said "a broader scale," but you may be right that mentioning something about "as many kids" is a better/more concrete way of saying this.

How do I see a combined JD PhD playing in what I want to do? That's the 200K question. Dean Deal from Stanford talked about basically being able to create your own program of study across multiple disciplines when doing a joint degree, and many elite schools brag about interdiscplinary approaches to joint degrees as well. I hope to find a niche in educating incarcerated youth in a way that reduces recidivism with things like pre-filing diversion, alternate sentencing, and policy reform. I am hoping that a JD will provide knowledge of the criminal/legal side of the equation. These ideas are, admittedly, not fully formed, but I am banking on a good school being able to guide my study in the right direction.

Wow. This is the first PS I've read on these forums, and it's actually really well-written. Inspirational, touching and you genuinely come across as the excellent person the PS describes. And I'm sorry for everything you've experienced.

There is no need to be. This is level of corny I save for anonymous posting, but I've finally reached a point in life where I am grateful for where I came from. Life is all downhill from here.
