I'm not an URM. I'm just caucasian. However, I did grow up poor, and leave an abusive home at the age of 14. Since then, I've taken care of myself, mostly been successful, but had spurts of homelessness, especially in my mid-teens.
I feel like my experiences have added to my adaptability and helped make me as tenacious as I am, but I'm worried that trying to narrate them might just come off as whiney.
Is this a route worth pursuing, or should I try and write a personal statement that omits that aspect of my life?
