Tips for Why X Essay

Postby Anonymous User » Mon Jul 22, 2013 4:46 pm

I imagine law schools do not want to hear "regional considerations, I'm familiar with the area and like it and it's the best school I can get into." What are things to focus on in a Why X essay to sound genuine? Thanks

Regional considerations are fine. "It's the best school I can get into" should be phrased differently but can be good (e.g. it doesn't hurt to refer to a school as "well-regarded" or "prestigious"). Other things to mention: Particular programs/clinics/classes/connections you're interested in.

No, do not do that.

If you write a Why X convincingly it will help your chances of not being YP'd. If you are YP'd, write a LOCI to get in. DO NOT address money until you've been accepted; for one thing, they may offer you more if they think they have to recruit you. For another, it will come off as entitled.

ETA: Read through this thread and maybe glance at this one also.

Thanks, I wasn't really sure how to approach it.
