How important?
How important do you think the personal statement is to adcomms? I mean, we spend months carefully crafting our PS, but I can't imagine that adcomms really give it more than a few minutes of consideration (there just isn't enough time). And after reading a few, PSs start to sound the same...

99% probably fall in the middle range of unforgettable. .9% are probably memorable because they are laughably bad. .1% are probably memorable because they entail saving babies from a burning building, etc etc. Some schools evaluate it more, some less. But it seems like it won't make an enormous difference unless you are a special candidate with special circumstances or you are right on that line of Accept/WL and they need something to compare you against similar candidates.
