Using a paid service to evaluate your PS

Postby snappysnapper » Mon Nov 15, 2010 8:33 pm

I've written my PS, had a friend critique it, revised, revised, and revised. I'm pretty satisfied with it now, but I've been looking at the thing so long, I feel like I can't even really see it anymore. I'd like the cold, objective opinion of someone who doesn't know me, but am not particularly keen to post possibly identifying things for strangers on the internet to read either (as much as I love you all, my TLS brethren). I'm thinking of purchasing one of those services offered by Powerscore or Testmasters that reads your completed draft and gives you advice on what works, what doesn't, what needs to change, etc.

Has anyone tried one of these before or know someone who has? Do they give valuable suggestions or is it a ripoff? Any suggestions for which company/person specifically?

I know the PS isn't the main focus of apps, but I'm a sort of splitter, and if a really strong statement could be the factor that tips me into "yes" territory for any schools, that would be awesome. :)
