Diversity Statement Issues

Post by ksimon2007 » Mon Nov 08, 2010 5:34 pm

I have taken a look at some diversity statements. I am an AA male who grew up with very modest means with a single mother, two sisters, and am a first generation college student. I have been through the whole oreo thing and still deal with being an outcast in my own "group" because I am a Republican during this era of Obama.

I simply don't feel captivated though by the story above. I have become SBP at an undergrad institution which is over 90% white and conservative after attending schools throughout my life that were either majority african american or were equally representative in a sense. This story is not terribly captivating either.

Any suggestions on how to write my statement?

Sorry about your politics.

Anyways, write first and fix later. It's more helpful to start writing about one/both of these topics then seeing exactly how to make it more compelling than just assuming it'll suck.

Seems to me you represent diversity within a group that law schools already see as bringing diversity.

You're a diverse voice in your diversity. or something. Sounds like you're set to me

Just do it classy and reasonably (i.e. unpolitically charged)

I have put together a draft. Anybody want to take a look at it for me?
