Evaluating International GPA

Postby hilaryd » Fri Oct 01, 2010 6:13 pm

Hi everyone!

I'm planning on applying to law schools next fall. I'm a US citizen studying for my undergraduate degree in the UK. My question is regarding how LSAC evaluate foregin transcripts. In the UK, first year doesn't count towards your overall degree grade and, additionally, second year accounts for 25% of the overall degree grade whilst the final year accounts for 75%. Will LSAC take this into account or will they assume that all years are worth the same percentage? I'm worried about this, because my grades have shown an upward trend. The grades I have received thus far in my final year have been much higher than in previous years. My final question is regarding grade equivalencies. Does anyone know what the equalivent of UK 2i is in terms of US GPA?

Thanks for your help!

Hey, so I can refer you to a really helpful thread:

Scroll through it, there's a bit about UK applicants.

It seems LSAC generally just give your transcript/gpa a ranking of superior/above average/average/below average. I don't think any of us foreign applicants actually have numerical gpas from LSAC.
