1Ls Summer Internships

Post by r973 » Wed Apr 01, 2009 3:42 am

So just curious what my fellow 1Ls will be doing this summer? Law firm? Public Interest? Study Abroad? Classes? Nothing?

Working in either the legal department or for the tribal judge on a American Indian reservation. (I hope it's the judge).

Intern at the Appellate Division of the DA's office in Boston, where I'll be writing briefs (yay...). I've been told that I will get to spend a significant amount of time watching cases if I want, which means I may be sitting a few dozen feet away from the alleged Craigslist Killer. Anyone want me to say something to him for them?

Because I'll actually be writing briefs that are filed in court, with the possibility of arguing them down the line. There are something like 55 interns working in the regular division, so I feared it may have been kind of a shitshow. There are too many people there for them all to be doing significant legal work. The Appellate Division has 6 interns, I believe, and I'll get to show potential employers for my 2L summer job writing samples that were filed in the Boston court. I also want to get in as much legal writing experience as possible.

1st half: 2d circuit court
2d half: boutique firm in LA.

really looking forward to both.
I will be going drifting over 4 places this summer (I'll spend a week back in ASia while working on the write-on, before heading to Boston for one night; then NY)
