25 minutes without traffic. About 40 with traffic but it actually isn't that bad. I moved here about 18 months ago and work right near Santa Clara and its worked well for me.
I like driving in the morning. Its like my chill out time.

ok, so BIG dilemma for me. Anyone out there know how big a backpack I should get? I have no idea how big law school books are going to be, or how many I'm going to carry around at once. Any advice?

 But in all seriousness, I'd probably get something fairly large. You might want to wait until you get to SC and see what everyone else has at orientation, then buy your bag. I had no idea before I came here but there are stores that sell backpacks here in Cali too  . Though FWIW I've got a northface backpack that I plan to use. It's 30 liters. I think I'll be enough but we'll see. I might have to buy one too.

That's cool. Good to hear that living far isn't too much of a hassle. Seems to me like commuting isn't so bad in the area. It's not like LA or NY in terms of traffic anyway... or so it would seem.

I'm living a bit away from campus, but I'm right on Caltrain, so it's easy for me to walk to the station, hop on the train, and get off at Santa Clara, then walk across the street to the University. The proximity of Caltrain and bus lines makes a whole lot of otherwise distant stuff very accessible.

These should help you out:

http://transit.511.org/
http://www.apartmentratings.com/
http://www.walkscore.com/

You should be able to find something that's on a bus line or on Caltrain easily enough. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the support everyone. I've got a couple leads on places not exactly close to campus but very convenient on bus routes. I'll be hoping they are everything I hope they are... hopefully.

section 3 would appear to be:
Contracts- mon wed 9 - 10:15
Crim law - tuesday thurs 2:40-3:55
Civ pro - tuesday thursday -10:30-11:45
Torts - mon wed - 1:10-2:25 and friday 10:30 - 11:45
...

Also I found a place to live. Looks like I won't be in a dumpster under a bridge after all.

Hey Everyone!
Here is my schedule. For civil proc, torts, and criminal: I'm section 3, for writing: I'm section 4, and for Contracts, I'm section 2.
I don't seem to have the same section for all my classes...Is that normal?

Like renwoshin said, don't look at the section number beside your schedule on ecampus. Look at your overall schedule and compare it to http://law.scu.edu/resources/schedule/f ... l_2008.cfm -- that'll tell you what Small Section you're in. For instance, if you have Torts Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:35 to 3:55, you're in Section 1.

Scratch that....Sections 3 and 4 are identical in schedule, but if you look at the class numbers, they are different. Even so, I think sections 3 and 4 take classes together except for criminal.

Anways, I am actually in section 4!

I was looking at the schedule in the orientation packet. I think it's different from the page on the website... If it's going by the one on the website then I could be 3 or 4 since they're the same on there, but in the orientation packet they're different.

Mine are the same whether I go by the website or the orientation packet.

Are you sure yours don't match up?

edit: It looks like 3 and 4 are the same in both the orientation packet and on the website. Check the professors. Do you have Oberman for Criminal law or Steinman? Steinman is 4, Oberman is 3.

edit again: it looks like sections 1&2, 3&4, and 5&6 all share classes. There is one difference in professors for one class, but it's not consistent. 1 & 2 have different professors for torts, 3&4 have different professors for Criminal Law, and 5 & 6 have different professors for torts...like 1&2. This is strange.

I just checked it again, the only difference is that section 4 in the orientation packet I have is Civ Pro wed fri 10:30-11:45 where as the website says civ pro is Tues thurs 10:30 - 11:45... I'm not sure what's up with that maybe it's just my orientation packet...
edit: also section 4 crim law seems to be on mon wed on the orientation packet but tues thurs on the website.
Looks like section 4 is the only one that has differences like this.
