I look forward to having you here next year. You will meet tons of people with an interest in Africa (I am pretty sure half of the people I know here have been or are planning to go do work over there. There are tons of clinics that my 1L friends are already participating in that will lead to trips over there to do work. A 3L I met has taken 5 HLS funded trips to Africa. Basically, enjoy.), but your new friends will care about it considerably more than the admissions committee will (because you don't need it). Your numbers will certainly carry you assuming your PS isn't just terrible. Judging by your interest in others, I would imagine it will be pretty decent.yme16 wrote: My stats

Thanks brokendowncar but if Harvard doesn’t give me enough money I would choose Upenn, anyways I heard its cheaper (Philly)
Would my friend get in? He is the crazy person about Harvard law school. He memorized the paper chase movie.

I thought all the money that harvard gave out was need based and not merit based. can anyone confirm?

I would assume you have an interest in public service stuff judging by your resume, correct? If so, HLS will waive your third year of tuition, so consider that a $45k scholarship immediately. They also have a great LIPP plan. Basically, don't worry about the money too much.yme16 wrote:Thanks brokendowncar but if Harvard doesn’t give me enough money I would choose Upenn, anyways I heard its cheaper (Philly)

So those of you at HLS: any signs how the new grading system is going to work? Does it seem like it will be like Yale's where LPs and Fails are almost unheard of? Or is it simply a cosmetic change from the A-F system?

They were purposefully unclear about how exactly the curve works. They did assure us that our transcripts would look just as pretty as Yale's though.

Did they elaborate on that at all or was it one of those wink/nod things?brokendowncar wrote:They were purposefully unclear about how exactly the curve works. They did assure us that our transcripts would look just as pretty as Yale's though.
Taken at face value, that's a very good sign.
You'll have to keep me posted after this semester's grades.

There was really very little elaboration. We have all made lots of guesses, but I doubt any of us will ever really figure it out.

Yeah, they haven't really told us very much, but most people think the switch will make the grading system very similar to Yale's.
