I'm surprised Ken didn't make this thread himself.

Hi Everyone,
I couldn't make it to ASW, but I'm almost definitely set on attending UC Berkeley in the Fall. I'm not familiar with the area at all so my question is...do I keep my car? Does it matter if I decide to live on-campus or off-campus?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I turned down my NYU scholarship today, so barring some sort of bizarre mental breakdown where I enroll at duke, you'll see me at Berkeley in the fall.
Does anyone know if the school facilitates people finding possible roommates for the fall in any way?

nate_2001 - I received an email on April 3rd with some contact info for the incoming class. Send me your email and I'll forward to you. I'm also signing up for Cal Rent, which might have roomate seeking services.

Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Class of 2011
During the summer I will be going to LA for 5-6 days or longer. I'm actually willing to let someone--who is going to Boalt-- borrow my apartment to look for housing or what-so-ever. Umm pm me and we can talk. Of course I get to pick if that person sounds trustworthy, and first come first serve. It's a 2 1/2 rooms apartment, I only own one room and the "livable" living room. So if you can gather up with others who are interested, it can host 2-3 people. I don't have many valuable things, but I ask for honest people.
EDIT: I forgot.. It is 3 blocks from campus, about 6-7 to Boalt. -AND- I'm doing this because I WAS going to go to BU, and I understand moving across country and the uncertainty can be overwhelming.

I don't hate. I'm disappointed that we won't cross paths, but I'm happy that you liked NYU so much. Be sure to post your correction in the TLS Class of 2011 thread.babs22pa wrote:I should have never visited NYU. Don't hate me.raskolnikov wrote:Babs, where art thou?

What are folks doing prior to starting up this fall. Is anyone else contemplating a cross-country move and a bit intimidated by it?

Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Class of 2011
I'll be moving from New Jersey. Ugh, i am not looking foward to the 42 hour drive. I checked with Uhaul and it's a crazy ~$2,500 for a moving truck so I'm going to stick everything into my corolla. Cost of living is similar to where I am in NJ so that's not a huge stick shock.nate_2001 wrote:What are folks doing prior to starting up this fall. I'll be moving from Boston. I planning on flying and buying furniture and everything else once I'm out there. It won't be fun to give up all my stuff, but I'm really excited to go to Berkeley!yjlu wrote:What are folks doing prior to starting up this fall. Yeah, I'll be driving from Dallas. What's everyone doing about housing?

i'm really close to joining you all. i'm still deciding but boalt's definitely the frontrunner.
i'd be moving from east coast, too.
actually, finding quality housing is one of my few concerns. plus, anyone think that having a car in berkeley would be worth insurance costs and figuring out parking? i mean, i know it wouldn't be that useful on a daily basis, but for exploring (with all that 1L free time) the bay area and beyond it seems like it would be a neat option.

Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Class of 2011
I'm also a bit concerned about housing. I'm hoping to find a roommate and an apartment with lease starting in July or August. Any suggestions about when to look? It seems like I'd have to go out to Berkeley in June or July to find a place.raskolnikov wrote:What's everyone doing about housing?

I'm in the same boat. Although I'm willing to start paying in June if I have to, in order to get a place that meets my needs.rockwell84 wrote:I'm also a bit concerned about housing. Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Class of 2011
I'm looking on Cal Rental for housing, but it's a bit frustrating that I won't be able to see the units before moving in. An ideal place would have parking and also be on the bus line to campus. I've heard that Berkeley North/Hills is the best location, but I'd rather spent more money on amenities than location.
