Does anyone know if there is a second deposit due for Penn before we start in the fall? I was looking through my papers and didn't see a second deposit mentioned but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something...

No second deposit. Next thing is tuition, sometime in July.

I bought the Civ Pro E&E a couple months ago, and was reading a chapter a day. I stopped about halfway through for two reasons:

A) I got to the point where I felt I could handle the material when I start to actually study it. The rules made sense and I could apply them in the sample questions. But I realized...

B) The only way to master the material to the point I could use it on the test was through intensive study. Even if I read the whole book and did all the sample problems, my knowledge of Civ Pro would be cursory. Only with the intensive study of law school will I learn anything worthwhile.

I don't think it hurts to peek at something, but I don't think trying to learn the material ahead of time puts you at any real advantage (nor does not trying to learn it put you at any disadvantage). What I do think is important is reading about the law school process. Read about how to outline, when to get resumes ready and mailed out, how to pace yourself so you're not overwhelmed at finals, etc. and don't sweat answering the Erie question. Yet.

Does anyone know anything about the Old Quaker Building? I'm out of state so I can't really make a trip to visit places before I move, but they just completely redid most of their units with granite, stainless steel appliances, and wood floors and all the pictures looked really great.

I noticed that it got pretty bad reviews online though, but from what I can tell pretty much every place gets bad reviews so I was looking for some first hand knowledge. Thanks, any info is greatly appreciated.

I found a great apartment in Center City last night but decided to google the management company before signing the lease. There were not many reviews but every single one was HORRIBLE. Does anyone know anyhting about William Penn management company or their building on 23rd and Sansom?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know anything about that specific building but I am renting an apartment from William Penn as well. The person who rented the place before me was a law student at Penn (he just graduated) and lived in the place for two years. I had heard some bad things about William Penn and specifically asked him about it and he said he never had an issue. So far, my experience has been fine. The two ladies in their rental office are super nice. The problem with ratings websites for apartment complexes and apartment buildings is that you're more likely to post something if you have something bad to say. If I were you, I would try and talk to some people in the specific building you're living in if possible. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for getting back to me! I've spoken to some other people and I feel okay about the building now.

Good to hear. I'll actually be pretty close to your building. I'm going to be at 22nd and St. James (which is about a block south of Sansom).

I think it's a great neighborhood. I love my (future) block. That area is right next to the Rittenhouse Square area which most Philadelphians would say is one of the nicest parts of the city.

What is everyone doing for computers? I have been posting in the Lounge, but I guess everyone's school has a different requirement.

I think I'm going with an HP. I've never had a laptop before, so I hope it's good!
